Emptying The Heart (Poetry)

06th October 2013
Tonight I will remember you
without resentment
I’ll put aside the anger and
shelve old pain
I’ll archive those emotions
and set free
the years we had
the best I have
in memory.

You cannot know how
dear they were
those times
I let myself recall them
and I smile
as joy comes back to visit
for a while
you’re as you were
and loved
accordingly.

I know what’s past is past
but the mood is on tonight
for emptying the heart
of what it holds
and values
weighing up
such sentimental treasure in the light
of so many years apart
it’s then I find you once again
perfect
good as gold.
