Encounter (Poetry)

Has anybody out there seen a mermaid
and is feeling strong enough to share with me?
I’m certain there must be at least one person
who knows they’re more than myth or fantasy

I somehow need to find a kindred spirit
with similar experience and aims
a mind without a doubt or reservation
I haven’t time to waste on guessing games

There has to be someone who has the answer
the knowledge that can break the mermaid’s spell
it’s barely been a week since my encounter
and the pangs of longing for her hurt like hell

As anybody knows — such ocean sirens
have supernatural powers to enthrall
but trying to convince the average doctor
turned out to be no earthly use at all

This is my last attempt — I’m feeling desperate
the hunger gnaws — I crave her company
I’m doomed if I can’t find someone to help me
no choice but simply walk into the sea
