Evidence (Poetry)
24th March 2019
Did I leave my fingerprint?
Did I leave my mark?
Do you still think about me since
our autumn days grow dark?
It was long ago, my love
when kisses came so cheap
and stealing was no crime, you know
our passion couldn’t keep
But did love leave a tiny scar
and longing leave a trace?
I often wonder where you are
and conjure your dear face
So, is there any sign of me
that constitutes some proof
I linger like a melody
and is there any truth
first loves each leave a fingerprint
that time can’t wipe away?
Nostalgia has me half-convinced
we both got robbed that day
Did I leave my mark?
Do you still think about me since
our autumn days grow dark?
It was long ago, my love
when kisses came so cheap
and stealing was no crime, you know
our passion couldn’t keep
But did love leave a tiny scar
and longing leave a trace?
I often wonder where you are
and conjure your dear face
So, is there any sign of me
that constitutes some proof
I linger like a melody
and is there any truth
first loves each leave a fingerprint
that time can’t wipe away?
Nostalgia has me half-convinced
we both got robbed that day
