Extracts (Poetry)

They’ve taken extracts from his notebooks
those unfinished lines and verses
written on long nights alone
makes you wonder if his spirit
wouldn’t balk at this intrusion
into such a private zone

These were rough ideas for lyrics —
songs that made the man so famous
line by quirky poet line
makes you think if he had lived he would
have knocked them into shape — a shame
he never had the time

Instead they sit in scribbled state
for fans and critics all alike
to wish and ponder on
what such tiny gems picked up and strung
like birds on wire all set for flight
might have one day (with loving care) become
