Fade To White (Poetry)

30th December 2012
The day feels insubstantial — every sound
muffled — every living colour bled
nothing’s solid — least of all the ground
which gives beneath me — crumbling away
although I’ve no real weight my cautious tread
splits those atoms — undermines its clay.

Familiar contours blur — abandon shape
as though a mist has fallen — a vague spell
to disconcert — deceive with its soft drape
concealing what was plain as plain before
so all seems strange — no earthly way to tell
what is true or supernatural law.

The world dissolves — no certainty to touch
both flesh and fabric melt — become the same
unnerving when I can’t make sense of much
I’ve no direction — slowly losing sight
of every landmark — memory is pain...
My spirit flies — my body fades to white.
