Fall Guy (Poetry)
15th July 2012
Satan was a fall guy —
his sudden plunge from grace
was probably a set-up
that look upon his face
depicted in old paintings
was shock — there’s not much doubt
they played him for a patsy
then the boss man kicked him out.
Lucifer was foolish —
he trusted all the rest —
for angel’s reputations
are arguably the best
but someone didn’t like him —
was jealous of his place
so spread a bit of scandal —
made sure he was disgraced.
Not one spoke up to save him —
his protests were denied —
they drove him out of heaven
intending he’d be fried.
Soon after, he went evil —
well, anyone would turn
on those who had betrayed them —
when cruelly left to burn.
He’s been plotting retribution —
sweet revenge high on his list —
the scribbled names of angels
clutched in his cloven fist —
Raphael and Gabriel —
the two he really hates
so he’s lurking in the bushes
just outside the Pearly Gates.
Old Nick’s gone full-time wicked —
real mean and scary-eyed
and very few remember
he once had a softer side —
it’s a pity he’s so rotten —
with no friends to put him right
and rescue him from darkness —
restore a patch of light.
