Feather (Poetry)
25th January 2015
I am a feather in the grass —
that brief encounter with the sky
is all I dream of now
flight is over — all the giddy rush is past
the breeze ignores me here below
and flirts with other things — far off
leaves flutter coy — the air’s alive with wings
that spiral high — hang in the blue
divorced from where I lie
with just a memory of how
it thrilled to soar and glide —
that joy is fading with each rain
dissolved into the ground.
My purpose lost — a cast-off left
to weather and decay
my love has flown to warmer climes
and summer’s gone — time slips away
so quietly blending year to year —
the clouds blow in — the sun has gone...
I am a feather in the grass
discarded —
love has journeyed on.
that brief encounter with the sky
is all I dream of now
flight is over — all the giddy rush is past
the breeze ignores me here below
and flirts with other things — far off
leaves flutter coy — the air’s alive with wings
that spiral high — hang in the blue
divorced from where I lie
with just a memory of how
it thrilled to soar and glide —
that joy is fading with each rain
dissolved into the ground.
My purpose lost — a cast-off left
to weather and decay
my love has flown to warmer climes
and summer’s gone — time slips away
so quietly blending year to year —
the clouds blow in — the sun has gone...
I am a feather in the grass
discarded —
love has journeyed on.
