Feeding The Hungry (Poetry)

28th May 2023
A whole untouched loaf
still wrapped in plastic
tossed in the rubbish
on a winter’s day
the wind blew bitter

Such a dreadful waste
when some are starving
in another land
where they beg for bread
this would be treasure

Yet here in the West
with no second thought
somebody has thrown
it into the bin
no value to them

They live in plenty
shelves never empty
believe it’s enough
to give now and then
donate to Oxfam

A whole rescued loaf
cut up for the birds
who forage for crumbs
and find a great feast —
their multitude fed
