Felling The Past (Poetry)
20th November 2022
A leaf’s torn from the legend of the forest
an ancient oak with its own tales to tell
such narratives fall victim to greed’s censor
wild history destroyed the day it fell
For centuries it thrived on standing honest
and gathered in the years beneath its shade
but lately judged the enemy of progress
they chopped it down — condemned to nerveless blade
The road runs wider now — they made their money
in time few will remember what it took
this sacrifice unique — a woodland wonder
that held more truth than any printed book
an ancient oak with its own tales to tell
such narratives fall victim to greed’s censor
wild history destroyed the day it fell
For centuries it thrived on standing honest
and gathered in the years beneath its shade
but lately judged the enemy of progress
they chopped it down — condemned to nerveless blade
The road runs wider now — they made their money
in time few will remember what it took
this sacrifice unique — a woodland wonder
that held more truth than any printed book
