Fiendish Verse (Poetry)

The smarter person has more sense
than rile the average poet
because he’ll go and write an ode
and then, before you know it
it’s up there on the internet
a feature on his blog
for everyone on earth to read
your neighbour and his dog
will have a laugh at your expense
the legendary wit
of poets with an axe to grind
and champing at the bit
to put their pen to subtle use
as weapon without par
to cut and cause their enemies
the cruellest wounds by far

Oh, upset the vicar if you dare
or the barman down your local
snub the postman and ignore
the bumbling country yokel
ruffle feathers, irritate
abrasive in your manner
and rude as anything when forced
to speak to some town planner
though it’s often wise to hold your tongue
despite the anger brewing
for the insult once it’s left the lips
is out there past undoing
so annoy your friends and relatives
who (gritting teeth) don’t show it
but your head will roll if you offend
the fiendishly mad poet!
