Finding You (Poetry)

02nd June 2019
I am not long for this sad world
I’ll join you soon in yours
it’s quite a way, but not that far —
a maze of twilight doors

A step or two — a hop and skip
a dreamy midnight swim
then I’ll have left the human crowd
and found the cherubim

The angels party well, I hear
they know how to rejoice
and welcome in all music men
they favour a strong voice

And I expect you’re loved as well
as once you were on earth
when famous for those stranger songs
of love and hate and mirth

I have the lyrics in my head —
a mantra for last days
I am the biggest fan you had
and that is giddy praise

And when the time comes, as it must
game over — so that’s that
I’ll find you in the party’s crush —
I’ll recognise your hat
