Following On (Poetry)
22nd August 2021
This night will pass, however dark
eventually the dawn will come
and I will rise to face the day
my heart still beats — I am not done
The little dreams to which I cling
have seen me through and calm the fear
when shadows threaten everything
and it seems vain to persevere
We made it through — my dreams and I
despite those doubts that feed despair
for hope still flutters — presses on
and haunts the winding midnight stair
Nights far more black might follow yet
the final one go on and on
but when I’m done I’ll be content
to go the way old loves have gone
eventually the dawn will come
and I will rise to face the day
my heart still beats — I am not done
The little dreams to which I cling
have seen me through and calm the fear
when shadows threaten everything
and it seems vain to persevere
We made it through — my dreams and I
despite those doubts that feed despair
for hope still flutters — presses on
and haunts the winding midnight stair
Nights far more black might follow yet
the final one go on and on
but when I’m done I’ll be content
to go the way old loves have gone
