Forever Constant (Poetry)

18th September 2022
Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

You’ve been there throughout thick and thin
forever constant in our lives
and shining though times might prove grim
your steadfast legacy survives

The stars that guided held you high
but not too high for common touch
your smile warmed all when you rode by
while spreading old-world charm and such

No other reign has seen more change
those long years taken in your stride
no aspect strayed beyond your range
you kept informed and travelled wide

Your face well-known in every land
your image graced so many walls
respect and love go hand in hand
as now night’s purple curtain falls

No words can do fair justice to
the loss we struggle to express
no one can take the place of you —
our Queen — the very best of us
