Frozen From The Start (Poetry)

(Advice on defrosting)

At best, the long, slow thaw is rarely easy —
too quick, and substance tends to melt away
such hurry’s the undoing of the lazy
who jump the gun and likely rue the day.

A gentle flame applied — no fiery furnace
to overheat or burn the frigid heart
but warmth that’s genuine and shared in earnest
will loosen what’s been frozen from the start.

Have patience then — take care in Arctic weather
a gradual change in temperature’s enough.
Exposed, love’s skin can quickly turn to leather
and once-tender thoughts end up a little tough.
