Getting Through The Day (Poetry)
27th January 2019
Today I am old snaggle-tooth —
survivor of the wreck
Life happened when my back was turned
and bit me on the neck
It kicked me when my guard was down
it pierced me through and through
the angels all deserted me
so what’s a girl to do
but limp along the best she can
and pray some magic pill
might take away the ache of loss —
those dreams that haunt me still
I’ve lost my looks, my body’s pain
is with me day and night
I tell myself no one’s to blame
the wrong will not come right
I’m stuck upon my desert isle
while others sail on by
I cast these words upon the waves
the sea winds merely sigh
survivor of the wreck
Life happened when my back was turned
and bit me on the neck
It kicked me when my guard was down
it pierced me through and through
the angels all deserted me
so what’s a girl to do
but limp along the best she can
and pray some magic pill
might take away the ache of loss —
those dreams that haunt me still
I’ve lost my looks, my body’s pain
is with me day and night
I tell myself no one’s to blame
the wrong will not come right
I’m stuck upon my desert isle
while others sail on by
I cast these words upon the waves
the sea winds merely sigh
