Good Old Roger (Poetry)

’Most everyone liked Roger
old Rog was a good bloke
and always fun to have around
to share a laugh and joke

Yes, all the guys liked Roger
the girls were friendly, too
though he wasn’t much to look at
his bonhomie shone through

Whatever they were doing
that trendy youth club gang
then Roger was there with them
they encouraged him to hang

He was their geeky sidekick
he stood out from afar
but one thing made him special
good old Roger had a car

So Roger was their transport
and he took them everywhere
he drove them to the seaside
pop concerts or the fair

Whatever they suggested
Rog rarely told them ‘No’
they all piled in his trusty Ford
and off the crowd would go ...

Always central to their plans —
that giddy social whirl —
Rog seemed quite happy in the role
but he never got the girl
