Goodbye To Glitter (Poetry)

31st March 2019
We’ve taken down the cards
packed up the baubles
the room has lost its sparkle —
almost drab
while Winter whips its trees
outside our window
and we reflect on what
might lie ahead

Santa and the snowman
now departed
angels, elves and robins
countless deer
wrapped and boxed together
in the attic
the season’s images
of Christmas cheer

We’ve hoovered round but still
a dust of glitter
winks among the cushions
keeps aglow
a little of that cheerful
festive spirit
and lingers like a guest
who’s loathe to go
