Half A World Away (Poetry)

07th April 2024
We sit and enjoy
the warm spring sunshine
our peace undisturbed
by the tides of war
that surge so far off

Half a world away
ordinary men
not so unlike us
fighting for their lives
carry a grim cross

Their Easter not blessed
with flowers of hope
chocolate and cards
or praising in church
the blood of the Lamb

The blood that they know
is spilt on the streets
they sacrifice all
defending their land
and all that they love

Has God a blind side
or does He think we
need more lessons still
in humanity?
Life doesn’t come free
