Heart Unseen (Poetry)

22nd August 2021
The trees grew quietly round you
while you slept
they made no noise but sighing
as they crept
to shield the house against
the wind and rain
a barrier to ward off
worldly pain

No sleeping beauty — your bright
dreams were spun
in lands where darkness melted
cured by sun
though you grew old the buds
burst evergreen
your life a leafy thicket
heart unseen

Those branches were your cradle
as you died
rocked you safe — cruel weather’s
harm denied
ringed by time you drifted
swayed to take
the jungled dreams from which
you’d never wake
