Here, Kitty! (Poetry)
22nd April 2019
Here, Kitty — come and muse with me
sit warm upon my lap
drink in cool meditation’s milk
and wonder where life’s at
You’re such a pretty demon, puss
your whiskers so precise
your coat so clean for murdering
a multitude of mice
You have no conscience, Kitty dear
you do not curse or moan
you take no blame for anything
nor fear to be alone
You do not dread the hour of death
no sense of passing time
you cannot measure true effect
of every pointless crime
You bring me bodies, one by one
and lay them at my feet
If I spoke cat I’d say to you
don’t kill what you can’t eat
Don’t do as men do, Kitty dear
let all your thoughts go deep
love well the hand that strokes your fur
and leave those mice asleep!
sit warm upon my lap
drink in cool meditation’s milk
and wonder where life’s at
You’re such a pretty demon, puss
your whiskers so precise
your coat so clean for murdering
a multitude of mice
You have no conscience, Kitty dear
you do not curse or moan
you take no blame for anything
nor fear to be alone
You do not dread the hour of death
no sense of passing time
you cannot measure true effect
of every pointless crime
You bring me bodies, one by one
and lay them at my feet
If I spoke cat I’d say to you
don’t kill what you can’t eat
Don’t do as men do, Kitty dear
let all your thoughts go deep
love well the hand that strokes your fur
and leave those mice asleep!
