Here's The Blackest Day (Poetry)

22nd April 2024
There has to be one —
a day where nothing
works out as it should
the odds are stacked so
heavily against

trying does no good
and disappointment
like lead on the chest
crushes the spirit
and won’t allow rest

The sense of failure
gnaws right through the soul
the fight seems pointless
apathy’s the goal —
better not to care

Thrown off life’s horse then
let it trot away
hurt needs time to heal
retreat for a day
seek some distraction ...

And eventually
the clouds loom less black
and bruises grow pale
life sidles on back —
waits tied to your gate
