Holding Back The Night (Poetry)

22nd April 2024
I would hold this night
stitch dark sky in place
and not let the dawn
push his bleary face
yawning into mine

I’d forbid sly light
to reveal what’s hid
shadows steal more kind
each eye draws a lid
clocks forget to chime

The moon’s hazy white
sluggish track transfixed
locks her soothing beams
messages run mixed
reason seeks some rhyme

Dreams play left and right
from true darkness creep
spool their stories out
entertain long sleep
logic bends the line

I would capture bright
strings of lucky stars
save them for some bleak
rocket ride to Mars
put the brake on Time
