Home Is Our Castle (Poetry)

09th July 2023
We’ve always lived here
our name on the gate
a sign says ‘BEWARE’
though dog’s deaf of late
callers should take care

Visitors are few
our social life’s thin
let them think we’re out
even when we’re in
there’s always some doubt

Our doors are stout oak
with bolts, locks and chains
a bridge spans the moat
where rotting remains
of trespassers float

Home is our castle
we’re keen on defence
our lives are private
in every sense
no need to translate

Most would imagine
‘KEEP OUT’ says enough
clearly a warning
things might end up rough
dungeons lay yawning
