Home Made (Poetry)

They boast there are no additives —
preservatives and such
the packaging’s quite simple so
it has that ‘Home Made’ touch
the recipe’s a secret but
it’s just like Granny makes —
old-fashioned goodness in each bite —
they’re simply scrumptious cakes

They sell them by the million, hence
the shares go through the roof
Bakery’s a thriving business
all the while one hides the truth
for there is no ‘Granny’s Kitchen’ —
it’s a massive factory
with great vatfuls of ingredients
unnatural as can be

The flavour’s mostly chemicals
the colour’s all enhanced
the contents list revealed would make
the toughest palate blanch
the sweetener’s sheer poison
that at best will make you fart
just the calorific value should
deter you from the start

On special offer all this week
so fill your baskets, do
and fool your friends and family
and maybe Rover, too
but in truth it’s far from healthy
poor old Gran would have a fit
for whatever claim the cake box makes
she had no hand in it!
