Horoscope (Poetry)
15th July 2012
I checked my stars today —
(Cancer, on the cusp)
they say
I’ll get promotion soon,
which would be neat because
I haven’t got a job.
A change of fortune’s due —
(number ten brings luck)
it’s true
for just this afternoon
I found a fifty pence
which used to be ten bob.
And love will wing its way —
(news of an old flame)
which may
surprise me — the full moon
should prove a turning point
in health and happiness.
All day I’ve thought of you —
(whispering your name)
I drew
red hearts on a balloon
and watched it float away,
escape the hopelessness.
