How I See Myself (Poetry)
22nd April 2024
The mirror tells lies —
that’s not really me
I’m younger than that
perhaps thirty-three
give or take a year
My filter applies
a lenient light
to soften the lines
and modify sight —
make age disappear
Through rose-tinted eyes
I pamper my skin
the magic of cream
seals youthfulness in
its proof is right here
Thus I fantasize
five minutes or more
refuse to get old
with my mindset sure
truth can’t interfere
Though reality tries
to unveil the cheat
this vision of self
is one vain deceit
that remains less clear
that’s not really me
I’m younger than that
perhaps thirty-three
give or take a year
My filter applies
a lenient light
to soften the lines
and modify sight —
make age disappear
Through rose-tinted eyes
I pamper my skin
the magic of cream
seals youthfulness in
its proof is right here
Thus I fantasize
five minutes or more
refuse to get old
with my mindset sure
truth can’t interfere
Though reality tries
to unveil the cheat
this vision of self
is one vain deceit
that remains less clear
