I Found A Poem (Poetry)

I found a poem in the wall
carved quaint in mossy code
a fanciful untidy scrawl
along the stonework flowed

I think I got the gist of it
a sense of what it meant
although I might have missed a bit
the artful way it went

And yet the meaning made its mark
those words that Nature wrote
in random shades of light and dark
for passersby to note

This ode to green in every tone
grown wildly to impress
employing language all its own
with lyric tenderness

Like Mother Earth’s commandment saved
in leaf-enchanted tongue
the ancient wall wore spells engraved
to lure the moon and sun
