I Never Knew (Poetry)
21st May 2023
I never knew
I needed you
your colour
and your song
I wanted him
a passing whim
too shallow to
last long
And there were more
perhaps a score
in half as
many years
They came and went
with no harm meant
no heartbreak and
no tears
Love was free
for you and me
no wedding ring
no vows
We had a ball
and did it all
as much as
time allows
It couldn’t last
the 60s passed
the swinging world
moved on
Too late I knew
what I should do
but you my love
had gone
I needed you
your colour
and your song
I wanted him
a passing whim
too shallow to
last long
And there were more
perhaps a score
in half as
many years
They came and went
with no harm meant
no heartbreak and
no tears
Love was free
for you and me
no wedding ring
no vows
We had a ball
and did it all
as much as
time allows
It couldn’t last
the 60s passed
the swinging world
moved on
Too late I knew
what I should do
but you my love
had gone
