I Teased A Sonnet (Poetry)
17th October 2021
I teased a sonnet from the breeze
tied fast its feathered tail
it fought for breath — I heard it wheeze
I sensed its shadow pale
I fed it tiny crumbs of thought
and felt the ghost revive
although in substance words fell short
they kept the verse alive
I never tamed it as I dreamed
it strained against the bars
forever restless — and it seemed
to hunger for the stars
Since last full moon I set it free
it sings each night from some far tree
tied fast its feathered tail
it fought for breath — I heard it wheeze
I sensed its shadow pale
I fed it tiny crumbs of thought
and felt the ghost revive
although in substance words fell short
they kept the verse alive
I never tamed it as I dreamed
it strained against the bars
forever restless — and it seemed
to hunger for the stars
Since last full moon I set it free
it sings each night from some far tree
