Imagination (Poetry)
04th December 2022
She dreamed herself a country
She conjured up a queen
She fed on all the books she’d read
and all the films she’d seen
Her head was full of rainbows
ideas flew thick and fast
each flitting word a bright-winged bird
whose tail brushed briefly past
A few she caged with paper
the bars drawn soft with ink
and in good time they sang in rhyme
as clear as she could think
She claimed imagination
was all the skill she knew
She carved a life — her pen a knife
such make-believe half-true
She conjured up a queen
She fed on all the books she’d read
and all the films she’d seen
Her head was full of rainbows
ideas flew thick and fast
each flitting word a bright-winged bird
whose tail brushed briefly past
A few she caged with paper
the bars drawn soft with ink
and in good time they sang in rhyme
as clear as she could think
She claimed imagination
was all the skill she knew
She carved a life — her pen a knife
such make-believe half-true
