Imagining (Poetry)
30th December 2012
Sea-dreaming of horizons far
across some deep unfathomed grey
that stretches, rolls its thundering heart
and hurls salt tears of stinging spray
on distant rocks — their looming shapes
half-hidden by a swirling mist
where ships once foundered and were lost
when wood and granite briefly kissed.
She’s seen those shore in realms of sleep
and felt the waves lap at the sand —
each grain washed clean and warmed by sun —
an unspoilt place — a virgin land
such dreams have left her one small proof —
a shell to keep — a souvenir —
imagination hears its voice
the ocean whispers in her ear.
Her gaze is soft — grown far away —
she’s found a beach where mermaids play...
across some deep unfathomed grey
that stretches, rolls its thundering heart
and hurls salt tears of stinging spray
on distant rocks — their looming shapes
half-hidden by a swirling mist
where ships once foundered and were lost
when wood and granite briefly kissed.
