In Their Finery (Poetry)

On plump upholstered
chairs the great aunts sat
enthroned comfily
impressive bosoms
decked out with jewels

They held teatime court
for their visitors
bone china, spiced cake
amidst the sparkle
of magnificence

Strings of pearls that bounced
with each heaving laugh
earrings glittering
more than Woolworth glass
though they surely were

How they caught the light
dazzling the eye
bracelets, brooches, rings
such a rich display
worn so regally

that they might have been
the most priceless gems
Cleopatra knew
when she entertained
and put on a show
