Instant (Poetry)
17th June 2013
A leafy glade
a nesting bird
a sudden blade of April sun
that lit the scene —
made sharp each shape —
and memory, for old time’s sake
glossed the moment —
held it still
etched it deep as love until
unnumbered years have been and gone...
but I remember clear as clear
the leaves, the nest
the shifting sun
like yesterday —
when I was young.
a nesting bird
a sudden blade of April sun
that lit the scene —
made sharp each shape —
and memory, for old time’s sake
glossed the moment —
held it still
etched it deep as love until
unnumbered years have been and gone...
but I remember clear as clear
the leaves, the nest
the shifting sun
like yesterday —
when I was young.
