Instructions From Field Commander Cohen (Poetry)
07th April 2019
Keep your pen cocked at the ready
Keep your trusty notebook dry
Keep your eye trained sharp and steady
Be aware as life goes by
Be alert and trust to no one
All the secrets of your heart
Though the march might be a slow one
There’s a war about to start
You were born to face the music
And record cold winds of change
So absorb the pain and use it
Keep the horses out of range
Keep your pen poised ever-ready
You must never drop your guard
While your aim remains so steady
Even though the going’s hard
Keep reporting from your shelter
Brave the blizzard or the heat
While the bombs fall helter-skelter
On some godforsaken street
You must always keep on writing
Never let the pen run dry
Keep the faith and go on fighting
Be a hero when you die
Keep your trusty notebook dry
Keep your eye trained sharp and steady
Be aware as life goes by
Be alert and trust to no one
All the secrets of your heart
Though the march might be a slow one
There’s a war about to start
You were born to face the music
And record cold winds of change
So absorb the pain and use it
Keep the horses out of range
Keep your pen poised ever-ready
You must never drop your guard
While your aim remains so steady
Even though the going’s hard
Keep reporting from your shelter
Brave the blizzard or the heat
While the bombs fall helter-skelter
On some godforsaken street
You must always keep on writing
Never let the pen run dry
Keep the faith and go on fighting
Be a hero when you die
