Joining The Queue (Poetry)

For David Beckham attending Her Majesty the Queen’s Lying in State
Our David’s not a queue-jumper
he chose to do things right
and stayed in line with all the rest
stood patient through the night
He didn’t use celebrity —
his well-known sportsman face
and thus avoid the tiring wait
instead he kept his place
It tells us all we need to know —
a true Brit through and through
he showed respect — just took his turn
that’s what we British do
