Journet Interrupted (Poetry)

24th April 2012
When I met you
I may have been going somewhere,
I’m not sure but, as I recall,
I was exploring the possibilities

and I hadn’t gone that far —
just out of sight of where I started from —
nowhere near the point of no return,
I could go back but something urged me on.

I must have had a vague itinerary,
a casual route mapped out inside my head,
but there was nothing set in stone,
no place to get to by a scheduled time.

A ramble in safe country — nothing wild —
some self-discovery along the way,
no urgency involved, the day no different from
a hundred others passing, nose to tail.

I found you without even knowing that
I’d been looking — stunned that you were there,
the ideal spot for stopping, certain too
I’d reached my destination and would stay.
