Journey's End (Poetry)
08th August 2021
As I look back ... and back ... and back
across the sea, across the land
these years have been a living map
of who I was and all I am
Some days dawned bright while some grew dark
the weather varied place to place
wide deserts bloomed from love’s small spark
as tears and laughter lined my face
I climbed some mountains, fought with pain
the track I’d chosen nearly lost
but then I found my way again
and life seemed good — well-worth the cost
Now I draw close to journey’s end
the evening bells are summoning
I hear the message that they send
and know I wouldn’t change a thing
On the horizon gleaming fair
an island waits across the foam
a few more miles will find me there
my spirit glad to be back home
across the sea, across the land
these years have been a living map
of who I was and all I am
Some days dawned bright while some grew dark
the weather varied place to place
wide deserts bloomed from love’s small spark
as tears and laughter lined my face
I climbed some mountains, fought with pain
the track I’d chosen nearly lost
but then I found my way again
and life seemed good — well-worth the cost
Now I draw close to journey’s end
the evening bells are summoning
I hear the message that they send
and know I wouldn’t change a thing
On the horizon gleaming fair
an island waits across the foam
a few more miles will find me there
my spirit glad to be back home
