Just A Minute (Poetry)
17th October 2021
For just a minute once an hour
I forget about the pain
and imagine I’ve the power
to rejuvenate again
Reviving youth’s full vigour
joints and muscles cease to ache
I get back my girlish figure
and the old me comes awake
For that minute I am sailing
on the tide of long ago
before brain and body failing
sinks my ship so far below
I half-drown in my own story
since wrecking crews rack up more pain
that fleeting glimpse of former glory
for the moment keeps me sane
I forget about the pain
and imagine I’ve the power
to rejuvenate again
Reviving youth’s full vigour
joints and muscles cease to ache
I get back my girlish figure
and the old me comes awake
For that minute I am sailing
on the tide of long ago
before brain and body failing
sinks my ship so far below
I half-drown in my own story
since wrecking crews rack up more pain
that fleeting glimpse of former glory
for the moment keeps me sane
