(Just Another) Misfit (Poetry)

It is I think
entirely possible
to make
an entire career —
an occupation
by default —
out of not
belonging.

I cannot claim
full credit for
a natural talent —
I had my family
to thank
for their support —
unstinting — such
encouragement
they saw me
on my way.

It’s mainly down
to them
I’m where I am
today —

wherever that is
cursed or blessed
with
a face not cut out
to fit.
A mind keen to
move on.
