Just Here (Poetry)

17th June 2012
Helping the earth create a memory
of what happened here —
the drama of a sudden death —
they cordon the vicinity —
mark it out with stones to tell a story —
ring it round as special —
hold it like a breath —
one moment that had its place in time
although the grass cannot recall
his body pressing heavy on wild turf
and the slow seep of his blood —
that would all be lost — forgotten if
someone didn’t build a wall
or somehow indicate the spot —
remind everything that grows
of the exact location —
just here it was he died...
                                so be respectful.

But the whys and wherefores —
the ragged rhyme and reason only
far-off Heaven knows.
