Just Light And Shadow (Poetry)

17th October 2021
She folded down the sheet of night
and climbed inside its comfort
it held her curled in black and white
fulfilled a need of some sort

So nothing touched to leave a mark
or breathed close at her shoulder
until the cock undid the dark
and crowed to say it’s over

She smoothed dawn’s cotton-threaded sky
her hair’s pale halo lonely
none caught the longing in her eye
just light and shadow only

No one saw so no one pressed
her thinness against sorrow
her shadow limped away ill-dressed
come rain or shine tomorrow
