Justine's Love Song (Poetry)
09th September 2012
At this uncertain distance
Your jack o' lantern gleams
And lures me from familiar ground
Through shifting sands of dreams -
Always at a distance -
Too far, you are, and fey,
For capturing by darkness
Or measuring by day.
Your eyes betray a flicker -
A cool, seductive flame
That haunts my empty spaces -
My wastelands with no name -
That lie in frozen shadow,
Untouched by sun or moon,
Infected, once, by romance,
Soft flesh not quite immune
To promises, half-spoken
In fever's body heat,
Which linger, phosphorescent,
On edge and incomplete.
Words hover like a vision
At Love's unholy shrine -
You beckon and I follow:
I need your light to shine.
Your jack o' lantern gleams
And lures me from familiar ground
Through shifting sands of dreams -
Always at a distance -
Too far, you are, and fey,
For capturing by darkness
Or measuring by day.
Your eyes betray a flicker -
A cool, seductive flame
That haunts my empty spaces -
My wastelands with no name -
That lie in frozen shadow,
Untouched by sun or moon,
Infected, once, by romance,
Soft flesh not quite immune
To promises, half-spoken
In fever's body heat,
Which linger, phosphorescent,
On edge and incomplete.
Words hover like a vision
At Love's unholy shrine -
You beckon and I follow:
I need your light to shine.
