Keeping Time (Poetry)

04th December 2022
We cannot keep Time as a pet
it struggles always to break free
however we save it — and yet
we refuse to give up easily

We speed up the day in our head
and imagine stray minutes collect
like kittens in corners — instead
such notions are proved incorrect

Time fritters and skitters away
slips out through a gap in the bars
there’s nothing will tempt it to stay
it’s tied by its tail to the stars

We cannot tame Time to our will
it teases and taunts us nonstop
we chase after it stubbornly still
all-but-slaves to the beat of the clock
