Kismet (2) (Poetry)

16th November 2021
Some trick of Nature passing time reveals
a card that’s long been hidden up her sleeve
then, at some random moment, drama peels
back memory and lets the heart believe

in Fate, in Destiny, the crystal ball
the fortune teller’s cryptic prophecy
the wild, romantic tales — however tall
the way life has of changing suddenly ...

A living ghost who haunts the day’s strange light
a flicker that distracts and fools the eye
old love’s illusion dazzles — blinds the sight
and reason cannot fathom how or why.

One glimpse, the pulse goes racing — drunk on joy
irrational — defying common sense
the father’s image smiling from the boy —
kismet? ... or just mere coincidence?
