Starry-Eyed young girls
the whole world over
imagine fondly
their white knight will come
in the nick of time

to rescue them from
whatever monster
threatens their virtue
this handsome hero
the romantic lead

traditionally
seen in Hollywood
movies far and wide
those sweet fantasies
naive hearts cling to

Disillusion comes
bullying along
wrecks the fairytale
ruins Cupid’s song
outing Love as fake

Yet the dream persists
against all the odds
warming sad old maids
in their lonely beds
craving distraction
