Last Wishes (Poetry)

21st July 2025
For G.S.

They said goodbye — your wishes carried out
exactly — every detail just as planned —
each stipulation — even while they joked
the ceremony could get out of hand.

Eccentric — as in life so mirrored death —
dressed in your favourite hot pink jacket — and
with Jerry Lee Lewis — not some dreary fugue
to see you off — a rock ’n rolling band.

Your parting statement — humorous and true
to who you were — that purple coffin choice
declaring you’re a poet to the last
original — the echo of your voice

can never fade — immortal flow the words —
love’s rarest wine stained deep into the page
the last act done — yet no one will forget
your final bow — the way you left the stage.
