Let There Be Light (Poetry)

17th June 2012
The blue touchpaper’s fizzed alive tonight
my brain’s a firefly darting in a meadow
each thought’s a match struck suddenly to light
a line of candles burning in a window.

I’ve flicked a switch and stars are fierce — their shine
a thousand times more powerful — they blind
infuse each cell — transform to near-divine
the everyday — illuminate the mind.

And O the moon — she glows inside my skin!
aims slow thin feathered arrows of cool fire
and lights herself a lovers’ pyre within
consuming all in madness and desire.

The air is full of energy and song
the wires are humming words I need to write
like neon the electric Muse turns on
my pages curl and I’m in flames tonight.
