Let's Pretend (Poetry)

Let’s pretend that there’s no need to worry
let’s make out there is nothing to fear
for the government know what they’re doing
and we’re perfectly safe locked in here

Let’s pretend we are deaf to the rumours
let’s all stick our dumb heads in the sand
and obey each new law without question
we are children and must understand

all these rules are for our our protection
so keep calm and do just as they say
herd together and make no objection
and have faith it will all go away

Let’s pretend those that lead us are honest
and the dragon is set to be slain
by a hero with some magic potion
for the good of our health (once again!)

One close look at the old game they’re playing
(which the smarter kids quickly saw through)
there’s no dragon — it’s all a deception
but for now let’s pretend that it’s true
