Light and Shade (Poetry)
28th March 2011
The patch of sunlight on the garden
loses warmth — leaves purple shade —
within its chill all colours darken
flowers close — bright petals fade.
The night seems long with empty hours
cold and haunted by the past
sharp with memories and voices —
days that slipped away too fast.
On far hills the sunlight’s falling
in distant fields the poppies blow
the darkest night melts into morning —
the circle turns — the rivers flow...
loses warmth — leaves purple shade —
within its chill all colours darken
flowers close — bright petals fade.
The night seems long with empty hours
cold and haunted by the past
sharp with memories and voices —
days that slipped away too fast.
On far hills the sunlight’s falling
in distant fields the poppies blow
the darkest night melts into morning —
the circle turns — the rivers flow...
