I forget why I came here
what I said that I’ve done
my dreams for the future
have faded and gone
Those things I believed in
now baffle recall
ideas once important
don’t matter at all
The whole world is changing
or maybe it’s me
my heart feels unstable
turned wild as the sea
I watch the horizon
imagine I’m young
but a warning voice whispers
the end has begun
The silence is broken
some fool fired a gun
and death hands a medal
to each mother’s son
Here’s one for the graveyard
and one for the flame
no angels in heaven
not a soul left to blame
The gods of all nations
(too many to name)
won’t help us — I really
don’t know why I came
Men searching for answers
find there is no proof
it’s all been for nothing
and nothing’s the truth
what I said that I’ve done
my dreams for the future
have faded and gone
Those things I believed in
now baffle recall
ideas once important
don’t matter at all
The whole world is changing
or maybe it’s me
my heart feels unstable
turned wild as the sea
I watch the horizon
imagine I’m young
but a warning voice whispers
the end has begun
The silence is broken
some fool fired a gun
and death hands a medal
to each mother’s son
Here’s one for the graveyard
and one for the flame
no angels in heaven
not a soul left to blame
The gods of all nations
(too many to name)
won’t help us — I really
don’t know why I came
Men searching for answers
find there is no proof
it’s all been for nothing
and nothing’s the truth
